John SanGiovanni is an elementary mathematics supervisor in Howard County, Maryland. He is the coauthor of the bestselling Putting the Practices Into Action and the Mastering the Basic Math Facts series. John currently serves on the Board of Directors for NCTM and is an adjunct instructor and coordinator of the Elementary Mathematics Instructional Leader graduate program at McDaniel College. John will work with us to examine the 6 actions that teachers need to take to provoke and support productive struggle and end with an action plan examining where your teachers are and where you can go from here.

Breakout Groups (Participants will select one of the following when registering):

Catalyzing Change in Early Childhood and Elementary Mathematics: This group will discuss the role of elementary mathematics in the successful implementation of VMPI.

Catalyzing Change in Middle School Mathematics: This group will discuss the role of middle school mathematics in the successful implementation of VMPI.

Essential Concepts Review: This group will review and provide feedback on the draft of the essential concepts that will serve as the basis for the curriculum for the math courses offered in grades 8, 9, and 10.

Mathematics Pathways Review: This group will review and provide feedback on the mathematics pathways that will be offered to students following grade 10.
